I would like to become a equine photographer someday. I had a really nice Canon camera, but it accidentally got dropped on its lense and has ceased to work. What style/brand/model of camera would you suggest? I’m looking into a camera like this http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-E520-Digit… but I am open to ideas! Also: what would you want/expect out of a photographer you paid to take professional shots of your horses?

Definitely a Nikon D70. I have one and I love photography. I also want to become an equine photographer! So a star for you!
And Hold on I will edit back with some pictures I have taken with my nikon so you can see what the camera does
Edit—–
Here are some pictures I have taken with a Nikon D70http://www.flickr.com/photos/meagan_kay/… http://www.flickr.com/photos/meagan_kay/…
Some are on flickr and some are on photobucket because I have met my monthly upload limit for this month already
Feel free to browse my pictures on flickr, but I must say not ALL of the pictures are taken with my Nikon. I only got my nikon recently.

Okay sorry I got carried away! But seriously. This camera is awesome.

Thanks! that really means a lot to me! I love photography. Your pictures are awesome too! They all seem to catch each horses personality. They are intriguing.
Here’s a few of mine. Maybe they’ll help you learn something? I use a Nikon SLR, great cameras. I love Nikons.http://s590.photobucket.com/albums/ss347…

I like the composition in this one and I love the expression in Copper’s face, but I don’t like how his eye is all bizarre.http://s590.photobucket.com/albums/ss347…
I love the way Sherman is standing in this one, and I love the color
I adore this photo. Its the kind of thing I would want if I had someone photograph my horses. I particularly love the way his eye looks. Pretty boy!http://s590.photobucket.com/albums/ss347…
I’m very proud of this one. This was my first pony, and now he’s happily in retirement, eating my money. Lol just kidding, I love him. But what I like about this picture is that he is very in focus, and the rest is a little out…I think twilight is an excellent time to photograph.http://s590.photobucket.com/albums/ss347…
Really like the way this one turned out.
when it comes to horses it is all about angle and lighting, u want ur proportions perfect! way harder than it sounds! u want the butt to look big, u want the shoulders big, but u dont want the head mall. u can email me for more tips!

Get a camera that takes multiple pictures if you hold the button down. It’ll save you some headache…and download Photoshop, because even if your pictures aren’t the greatest you can still add photo filters and make them look better.
I recently bought a good Olympus camera with both a wide angle and zoom lens. I am more than pleased with it and will one day read the instructions as to how to get more out of it!
the great thing about digitals is that we can take hundreds of pictures without them costing a thing for that one shot.
When you are photographing horses you have to be well aware of all that is around.
I am not being nasty but here are some constructive criticisms
Dream – not a bad action shot but he is missing part of his backside.
Snow – not sure what you were wanting, if it was his eye then it is not cut down enough to emphasise the eye – if a head shot then a lot is missing
Horse – ditto with Snow and the background, shed and tree is also distracting to the eye. Not a flattering shot at all.
It is a matter of practise practise and more practise.
Megan’s pictures are much the same in that the background distracts from the horse subject.
