For what you want, getting a camcorder is the way to go. Many new ones also allow you taking still pictures.
Congrats!
Digital cameras allow you taking short videos, but they are not nearly the quality (or length) you would want for the arrival of your offspring.
I would recommend a camcorder using DV tapes.
Most digital cameras record up to the limit of memory today. Most record in Apple QuickTime format which can’t be imported into software but WILL play on Quick Time players.
you should get a digital camera because you can take pictures with you newborn that are high-quality and you can take videos also. go to wal-mart or best buy or where ever you go and ask how long much video memory is there. if you can’t find a digital camera that has enough video than definitely get the video camcorder. you don’t want to to mess up your wife’s video. if you do you’ll be paying it off for the rest of your life.
